DIAMONDS
Sarah Watts. Millennium Diamond 1 (2011) Pencil on Paper.
An image of the Millennium Diamond, collected ten years before, became the inspiration for a series of drawings and paintings that came about after dealing with the fall out from the ‘Opening the Door’ commission which dealt with raising awareness of domestic abuse.
After the original artwork of the door had been completed, it left Sarah broken, many issues that had lay hidden for a number of years finally surfaced to be observed. Over the months the regular sessions of counselling, group therapy, and applying herself to her art practice, she found resolution.
Finally after spending many weeks looking at the ‘Black Eye’ paintings she had painted decided she had seen enough of the negative images and wanted something positive to focus on. Sarah came across a sketch of the Millennium Diamond, drawn some years before, copied from a saved newspaper cutting which included a photograph of the original image.
